Zhytomir city is located 140 km west of Kiev. It is one of the oldest cities of Ukraine and one of the 25 capitals of Ukrainian regions. It’s over 1000 years old and lease the name of the Scandinavian warrior Zhytomir whose legendary friends Ascold and Dir were the rules of Kiev in the IX century. The land of Zhitomir belonged at that time to the Slavonic tribe “inhabitants of the woods”.

Zhytomir has a few old churches and buildings dating back to XVIII-th XIX-th centuries. During the city tour of Zhytomir You will explore the most interesting and among them are: Historical Museum of Zhytomir, City Hall, Castle Hill, Place monument to the foundation of Zhytomir, Church of Elevation of the Holly Cross on Castle Hill /1900/, Fire Station and Museum on Fire Safety History Zhytomir, Wedding Palace – Mansion of the Lower Filippov /1903/, Ukrainian style Doll in local national costume, Old water Tower, Philharmonic House, Suspension Bridge 43 m above Teterev river, St. Michael’s Cathedral, Sergey Korolyov square, Saint Sophia’s Church, Monument of Glory, Transfiguration Cathedral Zhytomir, Assumption Church XIX-th century in Lower Podil, Catholic Church of St. John of Dukla – Bernadine Monastery, Park of Yuri Gagarin – the first Cosmonauts of the World. Lastly on the back way to the Kiev visit the Radomysl Castle – museum of the home made traditional Ukrainian icons on the wood.
